Celebrating Our Shared Journey Into 2026: The Next Chapter Begins

Emmanuel M. Ndabombi, President, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Students Association

Fellow Students of the “Biggest Ship on Land,”

As the sun sets on the year 2025, we stand at the shore of a new horizon, reflecting on a journey that has been nothing short of extraordinary. Navigation of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences (FSMS), the largest and most vibrant faculty in the University of Buea, requires resilience, vision, and, above all, a spirit of collective partnership.

Today, we celebrate not just the end of a semester, but the triumph of collaborative action.

Our progress this year would have been impossible without the administrative “engine room” that keeps this ship afloat. We extend our profound gratitude to our Dean and Vice Dean, alongside the entire Faculty Administrative Staff. Your guidance and willingness to listen to student concerns have created an environment where academic excellence and student welfare can coexist.

To our Departmental Presidents and Executives: you are the frontline leaders. Your dedication to the specific needs of your peers and your unwavering leadership in your respective departments have been the bedrock of our faculty’s success this year.

I must take a moment to acknowledge the Faculty Student Executives. Your continuous efforts to coordinate activities, often behind the scenes and late into the night, have not gone unnoticed.

This year, we moved beyond rhetoric to deliver tangible results that enhance our student life:

  • The “SMS Welfare Fund“: Recognizing that many of our peers face unforeseen financial and personal hardships, we have established this fund. It is a safety net designed by students, for students, ensuring that no one in our faculty feels abandoned in their time of need.
  • Our Digital Identity: We have successfully launched the official FSMS Student Association Website and revitalized our Facebook Page and social media handles. In this digital age, these platforms will serve as the primary hubs for information, transparency, and engagement.
  • Campus Sustainability: To promote a cleaner, more conducive learning environment, we have distributed trash bins across key faculty locations, reinforcing our commitment to a healthy campus.
  • Sports & The Vice Chancellor’s Cup: We took great pride in procuring our new faculty jerseys and seeing our athletes compete with heart in the VC’s Cup.

“We acknowledge that managing the logistics for diverse sports and catering to every student-athlete is an immense challenge. While we followed up closely, we know there is room to grow. We take this challenge seriously and promise to do even better in the coming season.”

To those who have not yet fully engaged: your departmental association is your home. It is where your challenges are heard first and where your opportunities are birthed. Whether you are in Journalism, Sociology, Management, or Political Science, belonging to your association is the first step in fostering a vibrant campus life.

We recognize the challenges—the long hours, the search for resources, and the pressure of excellence—but within these challenges lie the opportunities to network, lead, and grow beyond the classroom.

As we close this chapter of 2025, know that the Faculty Student Body is solely behind you. Your welfare is our concern; your success is our pride.

To our esteemed Lecturers and Administration, thank you for molding us. To my Fellow Students, may this festive season bring you rest, joy, and a renewed spirit.

Happy New Year to the entire University of Buea community. We look forward to sailing even further together in 2026.

Long Live the SMS Student Association!

Long Live the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences!

Long Live the University of Buea

With warmest regards,

Emmanuel Ndabombi, President, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences Student Association
